About Our Creole Heritage Festival

The Creole festival and Mardi Gras in Houston are brought to you by a partnership between our festival organization and the Houston Sweet Hour Prayer (S.H.O.P.) Ministries Inc. S.H.O.P. knows the city and its people well, and understands the importance of food, music, and culture to communities, especially when it is shared among friends. We believe that there is no better place to celebrate all things Creole than in the Bayou City.

Our Creole heritage festival grew out of a desire to learn more about Creole culture. The founder of our group, Michael, never knew his father, who was a Creole from Louisiana. He wanted to learn more about his father’s culture and eventually discovered a passion for Creole cuisine and traditions. In an effort to teach more people about the richness of Creole culture, he began organizing the annual festival and Mardi Gras parade in Houston, which is now in its fourth year with over 25,000 people attending.

How You Can Help

Support the preservation of Creole culture, as well as important community causes, by getting a ticket to our Mardi Gras party and Creole festival. We are an outreach ministry and a 501(c)3 nonprofit group, so the proceeds earned through our fundraisers and events go towards important community causes. Our current causes include scholarships for local students interested in mortuary science, homeless veteran services and services for veterans with PTSD, senior home care, and custom-fitted bicycle helmets to protect children from fall injuries.

When you order four or more tickets to the Creole heritage festival, you get a free hat in thanks for your support (a $15 value.) You can also support our nonprofit by purchasing merchandise from our store. We are currently offering 10% off our hats and t-shirts.

We are also happy to accept direct donations. All donations help us support vulnerable people in our community, and cover our administrative costs so we can serve more people in need. In addition, we welcome all sponsors and volunteers.
